Week 2 Reflection

This week also, we are exposed to a new term namely ASSURE.  ASSURE has totally different meaning with the verb “assure”. ASSURE stands for Analyse learners, State objectives, Select , modify and media and materials, Utilise media and materials, Require learners’ Pprticipation and the last but not least Evaluate and revise. It is a model designed which can enable teachers to become skilled in today’s’ classrooms.

Result from globalisation and also the rapid development of technology, it is crucial to know when to use a wide range of instructional strategies and interactive media. Hence, the task given by Mr. Norsarihan this week is closely related to the using of a wide range of interactive media. We were asked to create a video clip based on a topic that we have chosen. The topic that we chose is poetry recital. In the video clip, we teach how to recite a poem in a correct way.

Creating a video clip by using Window Movie Maker is not a tough job for us as we have been doing the same task in the last semester. However, we wanted to try something new and hence we recorded our own voice and insert it to our video clip. Besides from our own voices, we also insert background music. I have gone through a hard time to combine my recording and also the background music. Besides that, it is also time-consuming to adjust the captions, the duration of showing and so on. We need to adjust everything so that the video clips will look coherent. However, I enjoy the process of exploring Window Live Movie Maker. Also, I found that it is very interesting to create a video clip with our own voices inside.

Using videos in teaching is an effective way to gain students’ attraction. Chalk-and-talk teaching can no longer become the effective way to convey our knowledge. Students nowadays like something fun, interesting and attractive. In their opinion, chalk-and-talk is a really boring teaching way and that is the reason why students cannot pay full attention to the lesson.
As a conclusion, as a teacher-to-be, there is no reason that I should refuse to learn technology skills. Technology itself is just like the main media of conveying knowledge and hence I never resist gaining and learning any technology skill although it is not an easy job.
