Week 6 Reflection

This week, every group had presented their lesson plan. After several weeks of preparation all of us manage to come out with a good lesson plan.  Our group chooses to do a lesson on poetry recital. My group consists of five members who are:
1.     Chong Xin Txin
2.    Doris Chelam Kasturi
3.    Ilanggo Kanan
4.    Leon Lennie Lening
5.    Ting Suk Hua

Each of our group members is assigned to conduct each part of our mini lesson plan. We do “Riddle Poem” as our introduction for poetry recital. Straight away after the riddle poem, we insert the video that we have produced before. After showing the video, students are given task sheet to enhance their learning.

Our micro-teaching can be considered as good and Mr. Norsarihan did give some comments. We all appreciate the comments as those comments will help us to do better in our next task. Thanks, Mr. Norsarihan.

Overall, every group did a very good job on their micro-teaching. Every group manages to choose an interesting topic and insert a lot of pictures in their micro-teaching. Those pictures can easily grab the attention from students. So, good job, everyone.

Week 5 Reflection

Moving towards week 5, this week is a really hectic week and is packed of lots of activities. Another new topic is introduced by Mr. Norsarihan in Week 5. The topic is “CASPER”. “CASPER” is acronym for a list of elements to do presentation. CASPER model is an useful model in doing PowerPoint Presentation.

Here, I list down the elements of “CASPER”.
C-Contrast
A-Alignment
S-Simplicity
P- Proximity
E-Emphasis
R-Repetition

The very first element is “contrast”. “Contrast” means we need to use two contrast colours in our slides. For example, black and white, yellow and blue, those are the colours which can show big contrast.

The second element is “alignment”. Alignment means the way we put our text and also pictures in our slides. If the text consists of many points, then we can use bullets and put it to the right side of the slide. If the test just consists of one sentence we can put it in the middle. Besides that pictures should not overlap with text so that the audience would not distract by the pictures.

The third element of CASPER is “simplicity”. Simplicity means that our slides should not be too complicated. First of all, we should not insert too many pictures in one slide as the slides will looks packed. Also, the text we put in the slides should be simplified which means the text cannot be too long.

The fourth element is “proximity”. When we are doing PowerPoint slides, we should be consistent in using the fonts and also the colours of the text. To many types of fonts and colours used will distract the attention of readers.

The fifth element of CASPER is “emphasis”. Emphasis means that we can highlight the main point in a sentence so that the readers can easily remember the main point of the presentation. The main points can be highlighted in different colours.

The last element of CASPER is “repetition”. If we want the audiences to remember the key point, we can repeat it in our slides throughout the presentation.

As a conclusion, PowerPoint Presentation is now an effective tool for us to carry out our lesson. However, we should design our slides properly so that the audiences would not get fed out of the boring and dull slides. Hence, CASPER model is a model which we can remember easily and also apply it in our presentation.

Week 4 Reflection

This week, we need to present our blog to Mr. Norsarihan and also our classmates. Overall, most of us do a very good job in designing their blog. The popular gadgets include chat box, calendar and clock, poll, blog list and also blog statistics. Besides that, everyone of us has design the layout of our blog nicely. I choose to design my blog into a natural scenery. I use blue and purple as my background colour. Besides that, I have put a beautiful scenery picture behind my blog title. Mr. Norsarihan is very satisfied with our blog and he did give good comments on our blog.

Besides that, this week, we were asked to do a presentation. The topic that our group gets is “Graphics”. I enjoy doing this topic as me myself like graphics very much. From the presentation that I have done, I learn about the different types of graphics which include drawing or illustration, photograph, diagram or figure, cartoon and chart.

Apart from that, I also learn to edit the graphics. For example, we can edit the graphics by using Microsoft Paint and also Adobe Photoshop. Also, we can add the effects to graphics, for example, colours, shadow, and so on.

As a conclusion, graphics play an important role in our teaching lesson plan. Graphics make our presentation looks more interesting and fun. Hence, as a teacher-to-be, it is quite important for us to learn about the topic “Graphics”.

Week 3 Reflection (Video Presentation)

This week, we were asked to present the video clips that we have done last week. Overall, all groups had done a very good job on their video clips.
First video clip is presented by Xin Txin, Ilanggo, Leon and me. In my opinion, our video clip is quite interesting. The topic that we have chosen is poetry recital. Most of our classmates were amused by the pictures that we have inserted in the video clip especially the picture which shows the eye contact of Angelina Jolie. However, we did not insert much background music to the video clip and this cause our video looks boring and uninteresting.
Second video clip is presented by Joharizal, Aileen, Rachel, Jennie and Allen. Their video clip is pretty special as the topic they chose is based on natural disaster. They even inserted news in their video and this has successfully grabbed my attraction towards their video.
Third video was presented Hilman, Nigel, Freddy, Josman and Vanessa. They presented a video on adjectives and I think this video is very suitable for primary students. The video that they have produced is very interesting and they insert quite a lot of fun effects in their videos.
Fourth group also produce a video on the topic “Adjectives”.  The members of the fourth group are Barbara, Khatika, Azrul, Haziq and Halil. However, the way they do their video clip is different form the previous group and it is quite interesting also.
Overall, we receive quite good comments from Mr. Norsarihan. However, there are some improvements that we need to do. For example, the time transition between pictures should be suitable, which means cannot be too long or too short.
As a conclusion, I really learn a lot from this video presentation, and I am able to have a view on how the others do their videos.

Week 2 Reflection

This week also, we are exposed to a new term namely ASSURE.  ASSURE has totally different meaning with the verb “assure”. ASSURE stands for Analyse learners, State objectives, Select , modify and media and materials, Utilise media and materials, Require learners’ Pprticipation and the last but not least Evaluate and revise. It is a model designed which can enable teachers to become skilled in today’s’ classrooms.

Result from globalisation and also the rapid development of technology, it is crucial to know when to use a wide range of instructional strategies and interactive media. Hence, the task given by Mr. Norsarihan this week is closely related to the using of a wide range of interactive media. We were asked to create a video clip based on a topic that we have chosen. The topic that we chose is poetry recital. In the video clip, we teach how to recite a poem in a correct way.

Creating a video clip by using Window Movie Maker is not a tough job for us as we have been doing the same task in the last semester. However, we wanted to try something new and hence we recorded our own voice and insert it to our video clip. Besides from our own voices, we also insert background music. I have gone through a hard time to combine my recording and also the background music. Besides that, it is also time-consuming to adjust the captions, the duration of showing and so on. We need to adjust everything so that the video clips will look coherent. However, I enjoy the process of exploring Window Live Movie Maker. Also, I found that it is very interesting to create a video clip with our own voices inside.

Using videos in teaching is an effective way to gain students’ attraction. Chalk-and-talk teaching can no longer become the effective way to convey our knowledge. Students nowadays like something fun, interesting and attractive. In their opinion, chalk-and-talk is a really boring teaching way and that is the reason why students cannot pay full attention to the lesson.
As a conclusion, as a teacher-to-be, there is no reason that I should refuse to learn technology skills. Technology itself is just like the main media of conveying knowledge and hence I never resist gaining and learning any technology skill although it is not an easy job.
